MBC has this new show called King of Mask Singer/Mask Singer in which they feature singers (obvi) who are masked as they sing their hearts out for the votes of the audience and the celebrity panel. The show premiered as a Lunar New Year special, which then got a regular television time slot on Sundays featuring professional singers and non-professional singers alike.
The show has boasted a lot of singers including, the first winner, EXID’s Solji, B1A4’s Sandeul, 2AM’s Changmin, FT Island’s Hongki, actor Hyun Woo, and much more. To my surprise, every single person who has appeared on the show has proven to really have a passion for singing. This show has especially helped idols because it does take away their “face”, so all we can judge them by is their voice.
With all the random people who has appeared on the show, here are some singers I think should appear on the show, do really well, and surprise everyone
He is so underrated in the group. Actually, BTOB in general is pretty underrated in my opinion. When I first heard Changsub sing, like on his own (clip below), I thought, “Wow. This dude has got some skills.” He was the first person I thought of because he has such a good voice that isn’t really highlighted in other BTOB songs or anywhere else really. It’s about time some light should be on him.
*Look at him hitting those Shin Yong Jae high notes, lol.
Now that I think about it, really anybody in the BTOB vocal line could appear on the show. And nobody would really know who they are, unless it’s Sung Jae. Otherwise, the whole panel would be guessing throughout the night and nobody would know. *sad face* Reality.
*Changsub does a little adlibbing in this video 🙂
Whew, does this girl have a voice. Shannon first made her appearance on Star King when she was super young and then reappeared a few years later on Hidden Singer 2 and blew everyone away. Although, she’s been on a show with a similar concept, this would be a great way for her to really break out in the Korean market (at least in my opinion) and belt the crap out of a super classic Korean song like she did with the song below .
This girl has been on my radar since her debut song “Daybreak Rain” and everyone should check it out because it’s waaaaaaaaaay better than her most recent song.
GOT7’s Young Jae
GOT7’s vocal, Young Jae, has some singing chops that I love! Sure, I know he still has a lot more potential and needs more time to grow, but he’s still a really good singer. He covered one of my favorite 2AM songs of all time “Confession of a Friend” and did a great job. Plus, I think that it’s time for a new person to shine from GOT7 (Don’t worry, I still love you Jackson 😉 )
Here’s a bonus video of him singing “Mirotic” with B.A.P’s Daehyun, BTOB’s Eunkwang, and VIXX’s Leo. By the way, they all could be on the show and rock it cause they rocked this cover!
Not much to say. Watch the video, you’ll know what I mean. And, yes, HER name is Ben.
In all seriousness, the panel and audience would definitely figure out who she is or at least have her in their choices. She’s just too good for this show to pass up on. Female Shin Yong Jae. Anybody else with me on that.
Speaking of Shin Yong Jae, here’s a bonus clip of him and Yoon Min Soo singing that epic duet of Lee Sung Hee’s “Fate”
Now before you go and claim I’m all EXO bias and stuff, let’s sit down and relax. We all know that D.O. has one hell of a unique voice. It’s another case where I’m pretty sure the panel would definitely figure out that it’s him, but hey, I won’t complain as long as I get to hear his silky, smooth voice.
It was just too hard to pick one song, so I found this compilation of D.O. singing a butt load of songs, lol. You’re welcome. Now many of you are probably wondering why I didn’t pick Chen, I did think about him and actually it was a difficult choice between the two. In the end I decided to go with D.O. because of the uniqueness in his voice. As compensation, here’s one of my favorite covers that D.O. and Chen did ft. Ryeowook and backup dancers, Lay and Baek Hyun.
Suprised, right? I was searching around and watching different clips on YouTube, I watched clips of Red Velvet, Lovelyz, Mamamoo, G-Friend, etc. I thought to myself, I wanted to choose someone with a more rough-ish, rock-ish voice but can still sing other styles. Then I came across and clip of AOA’s Choa and I remembered their “Get Out” days and how awesome the band version was and how she freakin’ rocked it. She would be a great candidate for the show, especially after listening to this clip.
AOA “Get Out” Band Version. My sisters and I like to karaoke, a lot, and we had a really hard time singing this song.
So these are my choices. I know they may seem a bit random and maybe a little idol bias but, hey, this show definitely fights the whole “only looks matter” stereotype in k-pop. I mean, nobody was expecting Sandeul to be who he was when he competed. Everyone thought that there was no way he could have been an idol singer.
Tell me who you think should be on the show next!
Check out our other stuff too. We do a lot of random things like this (check out our vines):
